The Opening Lines is: Detroit Lions -1.5 at Bovada Sportsbook
LVSP Preview: New England against the Detroit Lions in the all important third exhibition game for both clubs. Tom Brady looked like his old self in limited action last Friday as the Patriots dumped Tampa Bay, 25-21, in Foxboro. Showing no ill effects from the mild sprain of his left knee suffered earlier in the week during a scrimmage, Brady finished a sizzling 11-of-12 for 107 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Mallett took over for Brady and tallied 137 yards and one score on 12- of-20 efficiency for the Patriots, who improved to 2-0 in the preseason. The last time New England started the preseason with a 3-0 record was in 2003.
LVSP: New England 1, Detroit 3.
Danny Amendola totaled a game-high 71 yards and caught Brady’s TD pass on six receptions, while Zach Sudfeld added the other touchdown grab. Tim Tebow picked up 30 yards on six rushes, but completed just one of his seven pass attempts for minus-1 yard. The Lions, meanwhile, suffered a humiliating loss in Cleveland last Thursday, falling 24-6 to the Browns.
Matthew Stafford connected on 11-of-16 passes for 74 yards and running back Reggie Bush rushed for 15 yards on eight carries and caught five passes for 44 yards for the Lions, who finished 4-12 and dropped their final eight games a season ago. In an effort to shakes things up on its defense Detroit added a pair of veteran players to their roster two days after the game, signing cornerback Rashean Mathis and linebacker Rocky McIntosh.
The Patriots will be facing Detroit in the preseason for the eighth time overall and for the first time since a 34-10 loss on August 27, 2011 at Ford Field. New England is 2-5 all-time against the Lions in the preseason.
